Quilt Reflections Challenge Quilt
Clothing
Taking a little break from quilting to experiment with clothing construction.
In case you’re starting to think I’ve given up on patchwork and quilting, here is a little something I made and gifted to a long time friend. Now that she’s received it I can post it. Block design is from Building Blocks. Made from two fat quarters, one of which was picked out by my friend herself when I was visiting
Do you get joy from making do? ie. What can be made from a limited amount of fabric? … I received a free roll of fabric from a fabric manufacturers booth at @canadian_quilters Quilt Canada, I won a charm pack at @mpq.manitobaprairiequilters meeting, and found the burgundy floral fabric on the free table at that same meeting. … The roll of fabrics was cut into 5” squares. Some math was required to figure out how wide to make the burgundy strips for the most efficient use of the limited fabric. Burgundy strips were added to two sides of each charm then the squares were arranged. … Leftover fabrics were used to widen the backing fabric so the regular WOF was increased enough for the 48” square quilt. … A simple utility quilting design was used. The binding was machine stitched to the back and hand stitched to the front, using fine crochet thread, first with a big running stitch, then an additional stitch catching the edge. … I find it very satisfying to create within limitations and with minimal leftovers.
