A NEEDLE PULLING THREAD

My book review in the Hooked on Books section of A Needle Pulling Thread winter edition.

A Needle Pulling Thread is a quality Canadian Publication which comes our four times a year. They are also the people who helped me get my book published.

I made this quilt for Needle Crafts & Studio. I will be teaching a class. It is very subtle but it is done with striped fabric to give it movement. I always love a quilt after it's been washed and gets wrinkly and cuddly.
48" x 48"

This quilt is similar but much smaller. About 28" x 28".  It is a quilting challenge. Several members of our quilt group made the same quilt and then we were challenged to put our own spin on the quilting.

We had ten entries this year. Following the group shot is mine, then the viewer'a choice by Yolanda.

Runs With Scissors Challenge

Is it possible? Did I enter another challenge? Heidi Hunter had some fabric printed with her Proutopia sun logo and put together a package of fabric and challenged the participants to create a small quilt.

Look very carefully in the bottom right hand corner. It's a little man worshiping the Proutopia Sun.

Bethany Garner Workshop

I took two days of workshops with Bethany Garner through Manitoba Prairie Quilters. I made this small piece mostly with her hand dyed fabrics. I had fun embellishing it by hand using some of the designs from my book as inspiration then matchstick quilted the border before mounting it onto stretcher bars.  11" x 14"

2017 Granny Square

I designed this cushion and submitted it to a magazine. It was published in the July 2017 issue of Make Modern. You can get your copy of the magazine at https://www.makemodern.com.au/
2017 Damask

I created this quilt for the Kaffe Fassett Artisan contest. Quilts had to be 60" x 60" and had to include 80% of the Artisan fabric collection. I entered it with hopes of getting it to Houston but it wasn't one of the quilts that was chosen.

Bugsy Backpack

I made a backpack for my daughter who was in need of a new purse. The pattern is Bugsy Backpack by Sassafrass Lane Designs. I found the feature fabric  at the quilt shop in Kenora. My daughter has been learning beading and I thought it was perfect for her.

Rag Cushion

This 9" x 20" cushion was an experiment. I laid raw edge hexagons on a fat quarter, glued them down with washable school glue then stitched across them corner to corner in three directions. I then roughly snipped out triangles between the stitching. I stitched it into cushion cover with a zipper on the back. It was washed so the fabric would curl and fray to give it the texture you see.

Inspired by Alain Biltereyst

I have discovered Painter Alain Biltereyst on Instagram. At about the same time a challenge from Curated Quilts Quarterly Journal was announced. I wanted to create a piece based on one of Biltereyst's paintings. I wrote to him and asked for his permission to use his design, change it to fit the criteria for the challenge and enter it. He gave me permission and I began creating this piece. The design is more complicated to construct as a quilt than at first look but I enjoyed the challenge. The 14" square quilt was accepted for and published in Issue 2  of Curated Quilts.

Unicorn Quilt

I made my Grandson, Sareim, his big boy quilt for his 5th birthday. Aya was already 6 and still didn't have her big girl quilt mostly because I couldn't figure out something special that she would love. I came across this unicorn pattern from Counted Quilts and knew this was the one. I changed the colours and the construction but followed the basic pattern. The quilt is 60" x60".
