2016
Sunrise
Sunrise was made as a sample for my classes at Quilt Canada 2016 in Toronto. The quilt boasts 30 designs from my book Walking Foot Quilting Designs. It is made using 3 different quilt-as-you-go methods which I teach in my Break it Up class. |
50 Shades (of Grey)
The quilt group in Holland, MB were doing a 50 Shades of Grey nickel swap and they were a few people short of the 25 people needed. I was excited to be able to participate. We each cut two grey fabrics into 25 5" squares and turned them in. Everyone then received 50 squares back. Whatever project we made had to include all 50 fabrics.
I played with several ideas before I came up with this. I was surprised at the different grey tones, blue grey, brown grey, green grey, etc. I wasn't sure it was going to work but with the deep coral separating greys it turned out great.
There were three pairs of duplicates so I added three other grey fabrics but I didn't cheat, I used the three duplicate fabrics in my binding.
The quilt measures 64" x 80" and is quilted by myself on my domestic sewing machine.
1st place - 2016 134th Springfield Country Fair - Large domestic machine quilted. Also received a point of praise. Quilting Designs add excellent dimension and radiating line to accentuate piecing.

2016 When Val Gives you Scraps
I purchased the kit for the Quilt Reflections Challenge but in the midst of moving my sewing area, I misplaced it. After looking up and down I'd given up hope of completing this challenge. My quilt group in Beausejour is filling pillow cases with scraps to make dog beds for a rescue. Val found out I was doing this and she brought me four bags of scraps. As I was dumping them into the pillow case I spotted tiny strips of the challenge fabric. You know what they say ... one man's garbage. I just had to find the green fabric and someone came through for me at the last Quilt Reflections meeting. The original one was sold for $80 with the money going to the chosen charity, A Port in the Storm. The second one is coming with me to Toronto to hang at Quilt Canada 2016 in the invitational quilt exhibit. Each one is 9" x 12" stretched over painters canvas, with the tree itself being about 5" square.

2016 Interwoven Tote Bag
I was making more samples for the Interwoven Art Quilt Class I will be teaching at Quilt Canada 2016 and decided to make two similar ones into a bag. They would also make lovely pillows.
Springfield Ag Fair Quilt ShowReceiving my Judges Choice award for Before and After.
It previously could not be entered in this show as there was no category for a quilt made by more than one person. The Dresden plates were found at a thrift store so they had been made by someone else. Debra Barlow was the Judge for this show. |
Some other quilts I've made this year. The grey and white one was for my nephew Justin and his bride Kirstie. The second one was just something I threw together one evening when I just wanted to play with fabric. The next two are samples for the beginner classes I teach. The last quilt is a raw edge hexy quilt with cut-away hexies. A technique I was experimenting with.
