St. James Anglican Church Annual Quilt Show Challenge
Awaken
This is my entry for the 2012 Quilt Show Challenge. The quilt really grew in front of me. I actually called it finished four times. The first time had only stitching in the background. Then I decided to add beading to the background. Not knowing if I had enough beads to do all the outer loops I began working circular and realized there was another pattern evolving. Again I decided I was finished. Then I saw a smaller central pattern which needed to be emphasized and added some hand stitching behind the beads in the central loops of the background and stopped there. Finally I added a few beads to the binding and this time I really was finished.

THE BEAUSEJOUR CENTENNIAL QUILT PROJECT
Finished at last and up for the quilt show. I made more than half the blocks. We brought in just under $2000 for the project and after some expenses including building the rack to hang it on, we will be donating almost $1500 to the church. Pictures of individual blocks are at www.common-threads.weebly.com
(1) The quilt was first displayed at our quilt show
(2) As it hung at the Centennial with one more row added to the yellow panel
(3) At it's final resting spot in the train station at the Pioneer Village Museum in Beausejour

Rows of Sharon
My friend Sharon gave me the scraps from her king sized rag quilt. I don't care for rag quilts but some of the pieces were already sandwiched and stitched so I made a tiny quilt out of those. Then I took the rest of the leftovers and piled them according to size and just started randomly sewing them together into rows (Hence the name Rows of Sharon a pun on the traditional quilt Rose of Sharon). The result is this 65" x 81" quilt.
Manitoba Prairie Quilters 30th Anniverary Quilt Project
As if it wasn't enough that I coordinated the Beausejour Centennial Quilt Project, I am now coordinating the MPQ 30th Anniversary Quilt Project. The difference is that I (like everyone else) am only allowed to make one block.
The block must be 6.5" and have black binding. It is to represent you as a quilter. I love trees and I wanted to use my Zentangle stitching that I have taught in classes. It is ready to show as an example at the September meeting.
See 2013 for full details on the quilt and the book that followed. FRONT BACK

English Paper Piecing
Grandmother's Flower Garden - Not one machine stitch on this project, all pieced and quilted by hand. 18"
1st Place - Springfield Agricultural Society Annual Fair 2013 - Accessories
Girih Tiles - Girih tiles are a set of five tiles that were used in the creation of tiling patterns for decoration of buildings in Islamic architecture. They are known to have been used since about the year 1200. Girih are the lines (strapwork) which decorate the tiles. I still have to quilt those in. - I did do a little bit of quilting with the machine on this one. I did most of the piecing during our September trip to South Dakota. It is a pattern from Craftsy.com that is designed by a lady in Bulgaria.

Manitoba Prairie Quilters President's Challenge
I really like doing challenges. This one was to make a quilt with a perimeter no larger than 120" of a tool (and not a quilting tool) that starts with the same letter as the first letter of your first name.
I bought the measuring tape fabric in Sturgis. I also found a fabric with tools all over it at the Sturgis Quilt Shop but I didn't like it for the front of the quilt so I used it for the backing and quilted around all the tools so you could see the outlines on the front. The measuring tape is made from a yogurt lid. 9" x 29"
Point of Praise: Springfield Agricultural Society Annual Fair 2013 - "Innovative use of recycled materials. Brilliant use of backing fabric print to create quilted motif on the front.
